Building
Services
In Semester 5, this module will introduce students to the basic principles, processes and equipment of various building services systems found in buildings (experiential learning), expose students to the integration of various building services systems in a building, and allow students to demonstrate their understanding of building services systems and statutory requirements.

project. 1
Building Service in Multiple Storey Buildings Involving Public Use
This is a group project on building services systems applied and installed in multi-storey buildings involving public use. Students will be introduced to the common systems that are used in a bigger volume of spaces and a variety of users. This exercise requires students to develop their own understanding in the application of building services to make a building technically functional. This discovery will be useful in their future design studio projects to ensure that their building design proposals are practical and efficient.
project. 2
Application of Building Services
This project is related to the students’ studio design project in semester 5 which relates to a domestic size building. Students are expected to demonstrate their understanding of building services by proposing and designing the most appropriate systems for the building which include:
i) Cold and hot water supply system
ii) Sewerage & sanitary system
iii) Drainage system
iv) Electricity supply system
Therefore students are required to produce appropriate drawings and diagrams which include specifications, symbols, legends, images, texts, etc. to describe the planning and installation of all the building services. Additionally, students may also include specific clauses from the Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) or other relevant Acts, Laws or guidelines which relate to the proposed systems into their presentation boards.
